3 Easy Steps to tour by car
1. Rent a Car
It has been many times we have used the car rental service of car plus. It is absolutely reliable car rental, big car rental company with branches along the highspeed railway stations. We took the car at Taoyuan station for the trip to Nantou Cing Jing. To drive from Taoyuan to Cing Jing had taken us 3 hours. It took us 1 1/2 hour from Taoyuan to Taichung. You may want to choose to get the car in Highspeed Taichung station. It can save up to 1/2 hour to 1 hour to reach Cing Jing, so you won't be too tired for driving too long. If you are renting a big car with 6-7 individuals, it is of course cheaper than taking the highspeed. Highspeed is TWD170 per person and a full tank is about TWD1200 (so you can do the math yourself). Please visit http://www.car-plus.com.tw/ for car rental, you may save 25% off for using HSBC credit card! Or you can try www.easyrent.com.tw with a very similar reputation. |
2. GPS Navigation System
You can input telephone number or search by inputting an address. Simply key in a name or a district, it will get you there easily. The GPS system is accurate. There is only a small problem when it is under the bridge or at the underground. It works perfect for the many times we have been touring by car in Taiwan. They have them in English version, however not in big quantity, so request 1 when you write to them for car rental. |
3. Tolled Highway Coupons
The Taiwan highway system is a tolled one. The toll is TWD40 and will pay when only crossing from county to county (by district). It does not cost a lot, traveling from Taoyuan (near Taipei) to Taichung / Cing Jing for example, takes 2 tolls. You can choose to pay each time TWD40 or you can buy a booklet of 10 coupons. Remember if you don't want to buy the booklet, never pay over TWD100 or they will assume you need a booklet. The first time when we don't understand the system, we were receiving booklets after booklets because we always paid by cash. We have completely puzzled why some tolls are TWD40 while sometimes it cost 10 times more. Later on we discovered the TWD400 is a booklet of coupons, how dumb! |
STEP 4: Choose your destination

到台灣清境,路途幾長,最好有多名CG (司機啦)!
